What is Rubbing Compound And How Is It Used?

If you have a dark exterior on your car, you're probably well acquainted with those nasty circular lines called swirlmarks. They love to show up brightly in sunlight and seriously detract from your finish.

The number one cause of swirl marks is small scratches in your car's paint, another reason is poor detailing practices, using a rubbing compound will remedy the problem with the swirlmarks themselves. Getting a better detailing schedule is something you'll have to work on. Using a rubbing compound to remove swirlmarks involves a few steps and it's not hard to do. Rubbing compound works by being gently abrasive to your car's paint and smooths the paint, thereby removing scratches and marks.

Make sure your car's finish absolutely clean. Lane's Wash and Shine will get your car clean and leave no streaks when it dries. Next, use Lane's Super Cut and a low speed polisher. Take your time and do small areas of your car at a time. It works best to move the polisher in a figure-8 pattern and move light and quick to avoid burning your car's finish. Moving your polisher from side to side will cause your polisher to possibly stop and when the polisher stops it can cause burning of your car's finish.

You may use Lane's Super Cut as often as needed to remove those nasty little swirl marks. Scratches have a way of happening to even the most careful car owner and so it is a good thing to learn to use a rubbing compound yourself.

After using the rubbing compound, use a microfiber towel (the towel from your bathroom no matter how new will leave lint) to remove the dust from using the rubbing compound. When your finish is dust free, it is time to wax!

Lane's Gold Edition Wax is a great choice. Apply the wax by hand and all 10 minutes or so between coats. Use a gentle, circular motion when applying the waxy to keep those swirlmarks at bay!

Comparing Carnuaba Wax To Gold Edition Wax

If you want a high shine and great, protective finish for your car, you have to wax it. You have a number of choices in car wax, and while they are all quality products, your car's exterior will determine that wax that is best for your automobile.

Lane's Gold Edition is a professional auto detailing wax. It is an easy-to-use finishing wax that will give an mirror like finish to your car's exterior. For maximum deep luster shine, after waxing and removing the Gold Edition, use in conjunction with Super Seal Paint Sealant. Gold Edition can be used on any color car and is clear coat safe, and best of all there is never any wax residue left after you remove with an orbital buffer or a clean, dry microfiber towel.

Carnauba Wax is a professional quality wax used by dealerships. The Carnauba wax is a pre-softened wax that really lasts. If you have a black, red or metallic lacquered paints you will reap rich lusterous rewards in your car's finish. Carnauba Wax is also great for clear coats. It is easy to apply and leaves a highly durable shine that will get your car noticed. If you have a dark colored exterior, work in small sections and completely remove and you will have an outstanding finish.

No matter which wax you use, always be sure to use a clean, dry microfiber towel when you're working on your car's exterior. Either Carnuaba Wax or Gold Edition Wax are great for leaving a professional quality finish when you detail your car, it's just a matter of personal preference.

Accessories For Auto Detailing You Should Not Be Without

If you're going to detail your car yourself, not only do you need the right soaps, rubbing compounds, clay bars, and waxes; you need the little accessories that help you do the job right.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when they decide to detail their cars themselves, is using a towel from their bathrooms or worse an old towel. The lint and dust particles using a towel like this will leave on your finish you've just cleaned and detailed ready to be done again.

There are a number of good towels for detailing, you want to dry and detail your car with a clean, dry towel. Have more than one on hand so you will always have a fresh one handy. When they start to look worn, replace them and use the towel for other clean up jobs around the garage.

The Green Microfiber Towel will leave you finish ready for waxing with no lint or dust. The Waffle Weave Drying Towel is another great choice that will leave the surface of your car absolutely pristine. Another good towel for detailing the interior of your car is the Suede Detail Microfiber Towel. For big jobs, use the Jumbo Microfiber Towel.

If you want something that will wash your car's exterior without leaving any lint or other fibers on your car, check out the Microfiber Wash Mit. Another helpful item, is the Bug Sponge which will make fast work of removing the inevitible insects your car will collect. For applying wax, you can't go wrong with Waffle Weave Auto Wax Applicators, use a pair of MicroFiber Detail Gloves to make sure your finish is mirror-like.

Last but not least, a detail your car's windows with a Corduroy Window Glass Cloth to keep your windows bright and smear-free!
