Vinyl Maintenance For Your Auto

There is a lot of vinyl and plastic on your car and it's easy to maintain if you remember to clean it before conditioning. Using professional grade products to achieve this result make the maintenance process even easier for you.

If the interior of your car is vinyl, it will last a lot longer if you clean and condition it on a regular basis. There are some great interior cleaning products especially for this purpose including professional grade Power Clean.

First of all clean the area free of dust and dirt using a vacuum with a good brush attachment. Get in the corners, otherwise when you use the liquid vinyl cleaner, those innocent looking specs of dust and dirt will turn into ugly dirty drops of water that will smear and ruin the look of your vinyl interior, additionally hard pieces will actually work as an abrasive and possibly scratch your vinyl. The few minutes spent vacuuming your car's interior is well worth it.

Next clean your vinyl interior with a professional grade cleaner, it's worth it to use professional products because in the long run their higher quality will maintain and protect the surface much longer than a retail product. Clean small areas at a time, don't just pour it on and then wipe it off in one swipe. Working in small areas insures no streaking or smears on your vinyl finish.

After a thorough cleaning you need to condition your vinyl to keep it supple and flexible. Simply wipe on the conditioner and then wipe down with a soft clean rag, do not use terry cloth, a clean cotton rag or microfiber is even better.

Following these simple steps will ensure that your vinyl lasts as long as your car!

High Speed Buffing

Buffing is one of the most misunderstood processes in auto detailing. True, if done incorrectly, it can leave your car with swirl marks and burns, and that keeps a lot of people from trying high speed buffing of their autos. However, if a high speed buffer is used, the results are outstanding and no other buffing tool comes close to the finish you will get from high speed buffing.

There are two kinds of high speed buffers, the first is the high speed rotary buffer which works by causing friction and high heat that that softens the paint and the friction helps remove defects and leaves a beautiful high gloss finish on your car.

The other type of high speed buffer is the random orbital buffer and works with two separate motions: moving slowly in a circular motion combined with an orbital motion, meaning as the wheel spins it also rotates a little off center around a central focal point. It's nearly the same as hand motion but since there is almost no build up of friction or heat, there is little chance of damage to the paint.

Buffing pads are the other essential part of high speed buffing. you will need to choose which pad is right for your detailing job. The pads come in a range of sizes and remember when you're using a rotary buffer, the larger the pad, the more likely you are to have a burn or swirl mark happen because the outer edge of the pad is spinning so fast and creating friction and heat.

Now that you know a little more about high speed buffing, you can choose which detailing tool is right for your job and have no fear about getting that high gloss finish for your car's exterior.

Auto Detailing Tips And Tricks

When done correctly, auto detailing can be raised to an art form, and when done incorrectly, it can be downright ugly. There are a number of good tips and tricks that can save you time and aggrivation when detailing your car. Whether you are detailing for a customer, yourself, or you are getting your car in tip-top shape for selling, these tips will make the job easier!

The interior is a good place to start. One good tip is to always clean the driver's side carpets and mats first with a good professional carpet cleaner. It is the part of the car most potential buyers see first. Rinse your mats thoroughly, cleaner on dirty mats only attracts more dirt if you don't rinse them.

Next clean the plastic areas of your dash and other areas with a good interior cleaner. Professional quality products work best as they don't evaporate too quickly leaving streaks and smears.

Clean the glass in your car's interior last, that way if any plastic cleaner happend to get on the glass, you can simply clean it off. Use a professional grade auto glass cleaner for superior cleaning and no streaking.

Next work on the exterior of your car. Wash the wheels with a professional degreaser and as a good tip, use a professional wheel dressing for maximum shine.

Another good tip that works in detailing darker colored cars is to lightly spray your car with liquid wax onto the wet surfaces of your car and dry as normal with a clean detailing cloth. This will leave an incredible shine.

If you take a little time to clay your hood, roof and trunk before waxing or sealing, the smoothness and fine finish is worth the few minutes of extra effort.

Just these few simple tips and tricks will keep your car looking sharp for years to come!

Convertible Top Care

Everyone has seen the well maintained convertible driving pass with a sharp shine in the exterior and you can tell the car is well maintained on a regular basis, but the car's convertible top is in a state of disarray. Peeling, ugly convertible tops don't have to be part of owning a convertible, with a little care and maintenance, your convertible top can last as long as the car.

There are two main types of convertible tops. Canvas also called a "rag top" and vinyl. Your convertible top should be kept as dust free as possible both inside and out. Clean the interior using a professional grade cleaner for either canvas or vinyl.

Use professional grade products, do not use products such as retail brand window cleaners as can they have ammonia in them and degrade the plastic window and make it brittle after a short period of time.

For either canvas or vinyl tops, use a professional grade cleaner and gently scrub the surface with the appropriate cleaner for your vehicle and rinse thoroughly. If you have a vinyl top, be sure to use a good dressing on the vinyl afterwards so it doesn't dry out and lose its suppleness. After exposure to weather with no protection, cleaning a vinyl top with cheap grade cleaners is the number one reason for the tearing and "crunchiness" that seems to occur with this type of convertible top.

Canvas tops are even easier as they just require a good washing and then dry them off. They require no dressing whatsoever. The clear plastic windows can be polished back to near crystal clarity with a plastic cleaner and maintained easily after that.
As you can see, with a little effort, maintaining your convertible top with professional products isn't such an effort at all!
