The number one enemy of your car's exterior is acid rain. It's not a new issue as acid rain has been around since the Industrial Revolution of the mid-1850's. However the full impact of acid rain wasn't fully realized until the late 1960s.What is Acid Rain?
Acid rain is simply precipitation which contains traces of pollutions. Specifically, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide traces. Natural rainfall has a PH level of around 5.5 to 5.6 which is also mildly acidic but not considered harmful. When rain forms over a polluted area the PH level can drop dramatically and in some areas has been found to have the same acidity of pure vinegar, this is considered to be acid rain.
The devastating effects of acid rain on the world's water supply, the populations of fish and the effects on plant life can be traced back to the use of fossil fuels as a power source for factories. Many companies have taken steps to minimize the effects of doing business and have greatly reduced the effects of acid rain, however if you have a car it is still a concern and it can wreck your exterior if you don't treat your car.
How Can You Protect Your Vehicle?
Protection for your car's exterior should be a priority, especially if you have a darker colored vehicle. After detailing, be sure to apply a waxing agent and keep your vehicle protected at all times and you can avoid having your car's exterior become an acid rain statistic in terms of a damaged finish due to exposure to rain. Keep your vehicle in a covered area when possible and keep your exterior waxes at all times and you'll go a long way towards extending the life of the exterior of your ride.
