Yes, Waxing is About the Technique

Waxing your car regularly will help to keep it looking new, year after year. A ten year old car that has been waxed twice per year might actually have a better shine than when it was brand new. Additionally, caring for your car's exterior on a regular basis will not only help it last longer, you can actually increase the resale value and make it easier to sell.

If water does not bead on the car surfaces when it rains, that’s a sure sign that it’s time to wax it. How often you need to wax your vehicle depends on what type of wax you use, and how good you want your car to look. Some of the newer synthetic waxes available can last more than a year.

There are two ways to get your car waxed. You can spend about a hundred dollars and have an auto detailer wax your car for you, as well as clean and shampoo the interior. They will deep clean everything on and in your vehicle, and make sure there is no residue around any nooks and crannies. You can check the local car wash, or look in the phone book under Auto Detailing. However you can save a mint if you take the time to do it yourself.

First, start with a clean car and don’t ever wax in direct sunlight on a very hot day. Run your hand over the surface of the car. It should feel as smooth as glass. If the surface of the car feels rough or gritty, as if there are bits of sand in the paint, then you should start with a non-abrasive cleaner to clean the paint thoroughly before waxing. Make sure to use only those products that are designed for auto finishes, and follow all of the manufacturer’s instructions.

Then start with a good quality wax, and apply, and subsequently remove the wax, according to the instructions on the bottle. Follow these precisely as they are what will make your car look its best with that particular wax. Since you only do this occasionally, consider spending a little more and using a very high quality wax. When you’ve done that, look over the whole surface of the car to look for residue. If your car has black trim, stay away from it with the wax. Some waxes might leave a chalky film on trims like rubber, and it can be hard to remove. Buy quality products and you'll get a professional finish every single time.
