Tips for Choosing Tires

Buying tires can be confusing because it is not something people need to do too often. Taking a few things into account when you are choosing new tires for your vehicle will help you make the right choice for the type of driving you need to do most.

First of all, make sure you need new tires. Inspect the tread on your tires and see if it evenly worn down. Many people do the "penny test". If you can stick a penny into the tread of your tires and see most of the head on the coin, you need new tires. Uneven wear on your tires can mean your wheels are not balanced and need to be rotated and/or balanced. Be aware that even if only one tire is truly bad, it is still best to replace two tires for better handling.

Once you determine that you need tires, consider the type of driving you need to do the most. If you drive through ice and snow on a regular basis to get to work, you might want to get tires with heavier tread to help grip the road. If you need all-weather tires or sport tires; choose those accordingly. Get the correct tire size, that information is usually easily found in the owner's manual for your vehicle or you can look it up online.

Once you get your tires, car for them accordingly and when you detail your car, remember to clean your tires and then apply a good tire dressing to keep the rubber flexible and healthy. This is a great way to extend the life of your tires.
